Joey's Vision for Southside

Commit to an Open-Door Policy & Increase Government Transparency
Many candidates for public office promise greater transparency, but few follow through. I believe in open and honest government, and as your mayor, I will turn that commitment into reality. In fact, my cell phone number is public information—Southside citizens can call or text me anytime and expect a response.
Public meetings will be easily accessible and viewable online through the city’s official website and all city-operated social media platforms. Additionally, we will enhance our communication with residents by implementing both physical and digital tools to keep you informed about city activities, local events, projects, and the management of taxpayer dollars. Transparency isn’t just a promise—it’s a responsibility I will uphold every day.
Foster Economic Growth and Development
In Southside, we’re fortunate to enjoy the charm of a small town without the headaches of a big city. However, our citizens deserve more local options. Voters have repeatedly emphasized the need for an additional grocery store, and I couldn’t agree more. For too long, we’ve gone without. Why? Because of a lack of proactive, visionary leadership that puts Southside first.
Economic growth doesn’t happen by accident—it requires a plan. As mayor, I will assemble a team of experts to identify opportunities, develop strategic plans, and actively recruit businesses that fit Southside’s character and meet the needs of our residents. We will work to attract not just another grocery store but a variety of retail and dining options that enhance convenience and quality of life.
No, we don’t want to become the next Gadsden—we don’t want overcrowding, overdevelopment, or the problems that come with rapid, unplanned expansion. But we do deserve access to the essential services, businesses, and amenities that allow families to thrive. A community shouldn’t have to drive miles away just to buy fresh produce, dine out, or shop for everyday needs. Smart, sustainable growth will ensure that Southside remains a great place to live, work, and call home—without losing what makes it special.
Strengthen and Preserve our Local Economy
Growth isn’t always about recruiting new businesses, it’s also about strengthening and sustaining the businesses that have already invested in Southside. Our local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and family-owned establishments are the backbone of our economy. They have weathered challenges, provided jobs, and served our community for years.
I will work to ensure that our existing businesses have the resources, infrastructure, and policies needed to thrive. We will create a business-friendly environment by cutting unnecessary red tape, improving city services, and promoting Southside’s local businesses to drive more traffic to their doors. Additionally, we will encourage collaboration between the city and business owners to create new opportunities for growth while preserving the unique character of Southside.
By supporting our existing businesses while welcoming strategic growth, we can create a balanced and prosperous future for Southside.
Support and Advocate for our First Responders
Our first responders are the lifeline of our community, dedicating countless hours to patrolling our streets, answering our calls, and standing by us in our most difficult moments. They put their lives on the line to keep us safe, and in return, they deserve a city government that fully supports them. Adequate public service requires adequate internal support, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the resources, equipment, and personnel necessary to do their jobs effectively.
On day one, I will facilitate individual meetings with all department heads, giving them the opportunity to present their challenges, concerns, and immediate needs directly to me. These conversations will serve as the foundation for a long-term commitment to strengthening our emergency services. Furthermore, we will develop strategic plans for each department—spanning the next decade—to better understand, anticipate, and prioritize the evolving needs of our first responders. This plan will address staffing, training, equipment upgrades, and facility improvements, ensuring that our police, fire, and emergency personnel are always prepared to serve our growing community.
By investing in the well-being of those who protect us, we are investing in the future of Southside. I am committed to fostering an environment where our first responders feel valued, supported, and equipped to continue their vital mission.
Protecting the Peace and Tranquility of our Neighborhoods
Our neighborhoods are the heart of Southside, and preserving their peace requires smart, strategic planning. Growth is inevitable, but it must be managed responsibly to prevent overcrowding, traffic congestion, and disruptions to our quality of life.
Through thoughtful zoning, infrastructure improvements, and investment in public safety, we can ensure that new development enhances—rather than harms—our residential communities. By prioritizing green spaces, walkability, and strong community engagement, we will protect the small-town charm that makes Southside a great place to live, now and for future generations.
